To commission a portrait, I've developed the following procedure:

These paintings literally and figuratively should fit your life. I work closely with clients determining where the painting will hang, the type of frame they prefer, and the composition that suits their personal tastes. I believe in getting to know the client and the subject as well as possible. This allows me to establish the composition and setting that truly reflect the character of the people involved. Often these factors determine the size. I work from photographs that I've shot myself or from existing photographs. The painting of the boy fishing with his grandfather (link) is an excellent example of a family photograph that worked very well.

• Secure a Portrait

I also create works that I exhibit in galleries around the country. As a result, I have a waiting list, as I'm only able to paint a certain number of commissioned works per year. To reserve a place on this list, a deposit of $500 is required. The paintings take four to six months to paint. Please take the length of time into consideration when planning a portrait, especially if it's a gift. At the time of the first sitting, approximately half of the total cost of the painting is due. The remaining amount is due upon final delivery. If out of the DFW area, please note that travel expenses are not included.
